About Tolu
My name is Tolu, and I'm currently in my 5th year studying Medicine at Worcester College, University of Oxford.
From my personal experience, I understand that applying to medical school can be intimidating, especially without the guidance of someone who is well-versed in the process. While at university, I have been motivated by this to help other students navigate this journey through personal statement guidance, admissions test tutoring and interview preparation.
My work with non-profit access initiatives such as Target Oxbridge and Coronavirus Tutoring Initiative underlies my belief that high-quality, personalised educational experiences should be available to everyone, regardless of background. In my later years at medical school, I have also been involved in teaching 2nd year medical undergraduates, once again helping to simplify the transition from school to higher academic study.

In my experience, the best teaching style is one that is well-suited, and consequently adapted for both the subject content and the student themselves. My teaching style is tailored to each student’s specific learning needs, whether that be consolidating core knowledge required for the BMAT, or critical appraisal of literature related to areas of personal interest.
When commencing a long-term period of tutoring, I like to have an introductory session where the student can share their aims/goals, any areas of concern, and how they feel they learn best. In further sessions, I think a mix of explanation / discussion of questions and also more formal assessment is best, as this allows the student to put what they are learning into practice at an appropriate pace.
In terms of my academic qualifications, I received 12A*s / 9s at GCSE, 3A*s at A Level (Biology, Chemistry, French) and scored in the top percentiles in the UCAT and BMAT exams. While in medical school, I have achieved a 1st Class degree in Medical Sciences, placing 12th in my cohort with an average mark of 74%. I'm a big advocate of spaced repetition in my own study, so revisiting and reviewing past topics to ensure that key concepts are consolidated is a major component.
