About Alex
Hi, I’m Alex! Two years ago I graduated with a BSc in Engineering, and in the last few years I’ve helped 15 students (250+ hours) gain more confidence in Mathematics. I have taught KS1-GCSE.
In the past, I’ve worked with 7 year olds learning the fundamentals of arithmetic, helped a 10 year old prepare for his daunting 11+ exams, and supported a GCSE student who dropped out of school regain his confidence and jump 3 grades in 5 months.
My Bachelors is from Northwestern University, a top 25 globally ranked university. Before that, I went to Hampton School where I did Maths, Physics, Design & Technology, and Further Maths at A-level (A*A*A*A). I also received 10.5 GCSEs (A*-A). I represented my school in maths competitions and was the 61st ranked student in the country in the UK Maths Challenge.

I first like to assess the student's level and work with them to find what they're struggling with. I'm happy to plan lessons to best suit the student's need. However, I like to focus on past paper questions and I believe in teaching the fundamental underlying concepts and not “tricks” just to get questions correct. I offer online tutoring using virtual whiteboard software to provide effective and engaging sessions for all levels.

When Alex was my teacher, he was extremely flexible with my needs and school schedule and really helped me build my confidence in maths. I was encouraged by my school to take foundation level maths at GCSE because they weren’t sure I could progress any further, but with Alex’s help I was able to prove them wrong and went up 3 grades!
My son was struggling with some of the new concepts in Year 4 Maths. After working for several months with Alex, my son seems far happier working on his Maths at home and his confidence has increased greatly. Alex always keeps the sessions light hearted and enjoyable, while still maintaining focus on the current topic. I would highly recommend Alex to other students doing KS2 Maths!
Alex helped restore my confidence in my mathematical ability - a subject that for years made me extremely anxious. His calm manner helped me to break down my mental barriers, ultimately leading to my success in the numerical section in the GRE (an exam required for graduate school in the US). His supportive approach meant that I never felt like I was asking any ‘stupid’ questions, making him a great tutor for maths students of all ages and abilities.
