About Catherine
My name is Catherine and I am a 28 year old English Teacher from Buffalo, New York. In 2016, I completed my undergraduate degree in English at D'Youville University. At Buffalo State College, I completed my initial teacher certification requirements and earned my Masters in Secondary Level English Education. I graduated with my degree during the pandemic in May of 2020. I am well versed in online learning, as I have experience as both a student and a teacher. I have taught grades 8, 9, 10 and 12, both at the Regents and Honors level.
I love to read, so much so that I typically tackle 40 books a year. My favorite author is Agatha Christie. My goal is to one day read all of her novels!

I believe in building connections with my students. My pedagogical approach is centered around Empathy Education, which means I truly try to connect and learn about my students and gear lessons towards their interests.
Please come to class each day with an open mind. We are going to hear, read, and see things that surprise us, confuse us, or maybe even bother us. That’s okay. We are experiencing this together so we can talk about these things and have honest conversations. Be prepared to think through other eyes and to see from new perspectives. The stories we read and the conversations we will have will help us all grow into new kinds of learners and thinkers.
Lastly, please don’t be afraid to be yourself in my class! Your perspective and opinion matters. Give what you can give to class and I promise you will get a lot in return. English Language Arts is, at its core, a study of how language impacts us. Let it impact you. Let it get you wondering and asking new questions. Let it lead you towards changing the world.
