About Courtney

With over nine years of experience teaching in New York and Delaware, I bring passion, patience, and professionalism to every lesson. My goal is to help students not only understand history but truly connect with it — to see how the past shapes the present and empowers their future. I’m certified in both History and Special Education, allowing me to adapt lessons for all learning styles and needs. Whether a student needs structured guidance, enrichment, or test preparation, I create a safe, supportive space where growth and confidence flourish. My approach blends storytelling, critical thinking, and active learning — transforming facts into meaningful narratives. Each lesson is designed to spark curiosity, encourage reflection, and build lasting academic skills. Students leave my sessions feeling capable, motivated, and proud of what they’ve accomplished. You can trust that with Courtney, learning is both engaging and effective — rooted in empathy, excellence, and a deep respect for each student’s unique potential.

About the lesson

With nine years of teaching experience in New York and Delaware, I specialize in helping students connect deeply with history through inquiry, empathy, and critical thinking. My approach blends storytelling, analysis, and real-world connections to make every lesson meaningful and memorable.

Teaching Method & Techniques:
I use a blend of visuals, primary sources, and interactive discussions to bring historical events to life. My lessons are differentiated to meet each learner’s needs—whether through scaffolding, guided practice, or enrichment opportunities. I focus on helping students develop historical thinking skills, such as analyzing evidence, identifying cause and effect, and forming strong arguments.

Typical Lesson Plan:
Each session begins with a short warm-up or review, followed by an engaging introduction to the day’s topic through a question, image, or quote. We then explore materials—such as documents, maps, or videos—together, applying critical-thinking strategies. Lessons conclude with a reflection or synthesis activity to ensure comprehension and connection to broader themes.

What Sets Me Apart:
As both a history teacher and special education specialist, I tailor instruction to all learners—those who need extra support and those ready for deeper challenges. My classroom and tutoring sessions are inclusive, encouraging, and designed to build confidence while nurturing a genuine love of learning. I take pride in making even the most complex historical concepts accessible and engaging.

Who the Lessons Are For:
My lessons are ideal for middle and high school students (grades 6–12) studying World History, U.S. History, Government, or Economics. I also support students preparing for Regents or state assessments, and those who benefit from individualized pacing, structured guidance, and an encouraging environment.
