About Shash
I am an experienced number-cruncher - an actuary by profession - with a lifelong love for solving puzzles and keeping my brain active. As a naturally curious person, I have always been drawn to the way math and science help us make sense of the world around us. My passion for teaching began in my teenage years while tutoring my younger siblings in mathematics. Since then, I’ve had the joy of helping classmates, friends, and school students grow their confidence and skills in math. I truly believe that a strong education empowers people to build the lives they aspire to. It’s a privilege to play even a small role in that journey, and I look forward to supporting you as you discover what you’re capable of.

I will start with a 30-minute introductory call with the student and/or parents to better understand the student's capabilities and desired outcome of tutoring sessions. We will then discuss the tutoring approach most suited for the student and agree on a high-level tutoring plan. For students in Year 1 to Year 5 (30 to 45 minute in-person lessons) - I will aim to make sessions fun and engaging using games and play-based learning, multi-sensory learning tools, and hands-on activities. For students in Year 6 to Year 10 (60 to 90 minutes in-person or remote lessons) - I will help build the students' understanding of mathematical concepts by connecting them to real-world examples, facilitating discussions, and providing problem-solving activities. - I will help develop their fluency through regular review of previously learned concepts, frequent practice questions, and clear instructions connecting new concepts to prior knowledge. - I will encourage a growth mindset by emphasizing the importance of effort and learning from mistakes to foster a positive attitude towards mathematics. - I will assess students' understanding through questioning, observation, and informal tests. - I will provide specific and constructive feedback throughout the learning process. My qualifications and experience: - Bachelor's and Master's in Actuarial Science (highly numerical subjects) - Active Working with Children Check in Victoria - I have experience tutoring primary and middle school students in a classroom setting. They were typically groups of 15 to 20 students who required additional support in understanding mathematical concepts. - I have experience tutoring a dyslexic middle school student who passed her exams with my additional support. - I have experience tutoring students whose first language is not English.
