About Martin
Hello! I’m a dedicated and experienced tutor with a passion for teaching and helping students excel in maths, physics, and applied maths. My love for theoretical physics has driven my academic journey, and I am excited to share this enthusiasm with my students. I am kind and empathetic, which allows me to understand and support students no matter how challenging they find the subject. I firmly believe that maths is an innate human instinct, and difficulties often stem from a learned lack of confidence due to poor experiences in school. My goal is to help students overcome these hurdles and discover the joy and satisfaction that comes with mastering these subjects. Beyond academics, I hold a brown belt in judo and enjoy playing the guitar and computing in my spare time. These hobbies keep me grounded and allow me to connect with students on a personal level, showing that learning can be both enjoyable and rewarding. With years of tutoring experience, I am committed to creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment where every student can thrive. I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals!

It's my personal philosophy that mathematics is an innate skill we all have and difficulties with the subject often stem from a learned lack of confidence that the rigidity of our formal school system gives students. It is why my lessons prioritize understanding how the student thinks. Once I have an idea of this I will leverage my understanding of the different areas of maths to offer novel ways of thinking about a problem that better suits the student. Once I have this dictionary between what the student needs to understand and how I can frame it using logical reasoning more comfortable to them, I will cover the standard curriculum necessary to make maths work for them. All my notes and workings will be available digitally and I send them on after the lesson. I also insist on providing notes and videos free of charge to students if they are struggling with something we have covered.
