About Nathaniel

I am a Montreal-born literary scholar, researcher, and author currently pursuing a PhD in Cultural Studies at Trent University. Having recently completed a Master of Arts in English Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Windsor, I bring a contemporary, high-level academic perspective to tutoring sessions. My background is rooted in a rigorous understanding of authorial identity, the physical writing process, and the evolving landscape of speculative and surrealist fiction.

As a Graduate Assistant at the University of Windsor for four semesters, I managed instructional duties for courses ranging from Romantic Literature to Rhetoric, gaining direct insight into the grading standards and expectations of university faculty.

My tenure as a consultant for EyeSteelFilm involved editing successful grants for the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), the CBC, and the Canada Council for the Arts. This professional experience ensures that the guidance I provide is both persuasive and technically precise.

My approach prioritizes the transition from descriptive writing to critical, high-level argumentation. I treat academic writing as a physical and intellectual craft, focusing on the mechanical and corporeal connection between the researcher and the text.

Methodology & Techniques

Reverse Outlining: Deconstructing existing drafts to map the logical flow and identify structural gaps.

Theory-to-Praxis Application: Bridging the gap between abstract literary theory (e.g., Cultural Studies, Speculative Fiction) and concrete textual analysis.

Dialectic Feedback: Moving beyond basic grammar to address the "cognitive tier" of an argument, ensuring thesis statements are both provocative and defensible.

Bilingual Nuance: Leveraging a bilingual background to assist in translating complex concepts between English and French academic traditions.

Typical Lesson Plan (60 Minutes)

Status Assessment (5 min): Identifying specific roadblocks in the current research or writing phase.

Structural Audit (20 min): Reviewing 1–3 pages of text for argumentative density and theoretical alignment.

Collaborative Redrafting (25 min): Live editing session focusing on rhetorical precision and sophisticated syntax.

Strategic Directives (10 min): Establishing high-fidelity goals for the next writing block.

As a current PhD candidate and M.A. graduate, I operate within the active publishing and research landscape. My experience as a Graduate Assistant and researcher in Cultural Studies allows me to offer insights into the specific expectations of departmental committees and peer-reviewed journals. I do not merely edit; I facilitate a deeper understanding of authorial identity and the physical process of scholarly output.

These lessons are designed for:
Undergraduate Students: Navigating English Literature, Humanities, or Creative Writing majors.

Graduate Students (M.A./PhD): Seeking rigorous feedback on theses, dissertations, or comprehensive exam preparation.

Aspiring Researchers: Drafting Statements of Intent or relocation bursary applications for competitive programs.
