About Gunjan
I am a chemist and biophysicist with a PhD and over eight years of experience teaching and mentoring students at university level. I did my postdoctoral research at Imperial College London, where I also won the Teaching Award in both 2024 and 2025 — an award given by students and peers to recognise genuine impact in teaching.
Before Imperial, I was an Assistant Professor at Dr D.Y. Patil University in India, where I had full lecturing responsibility across Biochemistry, Enzymology and Analytical Chemistry. Teaching has always been a core part of my career, not just a side activity.
I have tutored students privately alongside my academic work — helping A Level and undergraduate students with exam preparation, tricky concepts, and project or dissertation support. I know the points where students typically get stuck in Chemistry and Biochemistry, and I'm good at finding different ways to explain things until something lands.
I am patient, well-organised and genuinely enjoy the moment when something that seemed confusing suddenly makes sense to a student. I hold a valid Enhanced DBS certificate and am a UK STEM Ambassador.

My lessons are tailored to each student — I don't follow a fixed script. I start by understanding where a student is struggling and why, then build from there. For younger students and GCSE level, I focus on making concepts genuinely click rather than just memorising answers. For A Level and university students, I go deeper into the underlying science so that difficult topics become manageable.
How I teach: I use a mix of clear explanation, worked examples, and guided problem-solving. I ask questions rather than just lecturing — I find students retain far more when they're actively thinking through a problem rather than passively listening. I use diagrams and visual aids where they help, and I share relevant resources after each session.
Lesson length: Most lessons run 60 minutes, though I'm happy to do 90-minute sessions for university students working through more complex material or dissertation support.
My background: I hold a PhD in Biophysics from the University of Delhi and completed my postdoctoral research at Imperial College London, where I also won the Teaching Award twice — in 2024 and 2025. I have eight years of teaching experience across university lecturing in India and teaching and supervision at Imperial.
Who I teach: I work with students at all levels — KS3 and GCSE science and chemistry, A Level Chemistry and Biology, undergraduate Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biophysics, and postgraduate students needing dissertation or research methods support. I teach online only.
