About Rebecca
I received my Ph.D. in chemistry at the University at Albany in December 2015, in the area of mass spectrometric applications for the elucidation of RNA modifications in whole-cell lysates, tissues, and RNA subsets. Projects that I have worked on include using direct infusion ESI and LC-MS techniques to globally profile RNA modifications; characterization of RNA modifications from several biological systems; characterization of the epitranscriptome in yeast and normal/cancerous tissues; affinity capture techniques to isolate single RNA types (mRNA, tRNA); liquid-liquid extractions; and software development. In total, this work has amounted to publications and several meeting presentations. In addition to fulfilling my research objectives, I have acted in the capacity of a lab manager and have since become a postdoctoral associate. I have obtained experience training many students, maintaining instruments/core facilities, overseen purchasing, and worked extensively on several grant proposals, publications and presentations. I have spent a number of years tutoring and mentoring multiple students. I have seen them all graduate and move on to either graduate school, successful placement in the workforce or a graduate program.
