About Sumit
Hi, I’m Sumit. I have a PhD in Chemistry and more than ten years of university research and teaching experience. I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Edinburgh and later as an Instrument Scientist at the University of Lincoln. I am now an Honorary Fellow at Lincoln.
I teach GCSE and A level Chemistry, including AQA, Edexcel and OCR. I also teach the Scottish curriculum at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher level. I can support students with individual topics, regular schoolwork and preparation for final examinations.
Chemistry often becomes difficult when one or two important ideas have not been fully understood. I first identify those gaps and then explain the topic step by step. I use simple examples before moving towards calculations and exam questions.
My lessons are online. I use video calls, presentation slides and a shared digital whiteboard. This allows us to draw mechanisms, structures, diagrams and graphs together. Students can ask questions throughout the lesson, and I adjust the pace according to their needs.
I am a Fellow of Advance HE, a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a PVG Scheme member. I have supervised undergraduate, Master’s and PhD students.
Please send me a message with your course, exam board and the topics you would like help with. We can then plan the first lesson together.

My lessons are online and normally last one hour. At the beginning, we agree on the topic and what the student wants to achieve. I explain the main ideas using clear examples, diagrams and a shared digital whiteboard. We then apply the ideas to calculations or exam-style questions.
For students preparing for examinations, I use questions that match their exam board. We look at how marks are awarded, how to structure written answers and how to avoid common mistakes. I also provide short summaries and practice questions where useful.
Lessons are mainly one-to-one. Small-group lessons for two or three students can also be arranged. The first meeting is free and can be used to discuss the student’s current level, targets and lesson plan.
