About Vanessa
I hold a PhD in English from Harvard, as well as degrees in literature from Cambridge University and the University of Virginia. I am also a law student at Columbia Law School. I am a professional writer in legal and literary settings: I'm an author with a book forthcoming from HarperCollins and a freelance journalist who writes for Smithsonian Magazine, Lithub, and others. As a law student, I have also written decisions for New York's State Supreme Court and currently have two article-length works of legal scholarship in progress.

I am offering lessons in critical essay writing and analyzing English literature. I have spent my teaching career helping students build the skills to write literary critical essays based on canonical literary texts, and develop their own voices in the process. I also have years of experience counseling students on college and graduate school admissions essays.
