About Lydia
With ten years of teaching experience with students of all different ages, social and economic backgrounds, I am passionate about the importance of education and especially literacy. Teaching at Durham University for three years has given me experience of preparing and organising tutorial schedules, delivering engaging lessons and marking student assessments. I am consistently ranked highly in student Module Evaluation Questionnaires at Durham University.

I approach each student differently in order to best suit their needs. Tell me what you want to learn and I will incorporate that into our lessons. I am passionate about English literature and the transformative powers of reading and creativity. I focus on close analysis of language and encourage students to become confident, independent learners under my guidance. I emphasise enhancing students’ analytical skills and developing their confidence in interpreting texts in surprising ways that pay attention to nuances in tone, form, and language. I foster these skills through guiding my student’s focus by asking them to consider specific passages and words to cultivate excellent close-reading skills. I am a Teaching Assistant in English Literature at Durham University. I have a PhD also from Durham University that specialises in Romantic poetry. I have extensive teaching experience, having taught and marked assessments on the undergraduate module ‘Introduction to Poetry’ at Durham University for three years. The ‘Introduction to Poetry’ module is transhistorical and covers a wide range of poetry from early modern to contemporary periods. Alongside teaching in higher education I have worked in schools throughout the North East and have tutored students both online and in after-school clubs for over ten years. Lessons will typically be one hour but I am happy to be flexible regarding this. Lessons are for all levels and ages. I have an active DBS check.
