About Katy
Hi, I'm Katy. I have a PhD in History, and I have spent the last 8 years teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students History at university.
My time is split between delivering History-based content (mostly medieval) and supporting students with their study skills. This means I spend a lot of time marking student assessments, letting them know what went well, and helping them to improve things like their argument, structure and critical thinking.
I have also worked with GCSE and A Level students, helping them with their writing, and especially with their applications for university – so if you would like support with this, then I'm here to help with that as well.
If you are an undergraduate student, PGT student, or PGR student, I am also happy to help with things like proofreading.
I regularly receive feedback from my students that I am approachable, that I break down information clearly, and that classes are fun. This means that I would discuss what you need from your classes, and would design tutorials around this in a way that is accessible, clear and engaging.

I base lessons around student needs, and will adapt classes accordingly. This might look like working through a challenging piece of writing together in order to enhance understanding, looking over student work to discuss ways for improvement, delivering short presentations, facilitating discussion amongst smaller groups, and offering feedback on written work.
A typical lesson is 60 minutes long (or longer, but with a break in the middle). I am happy to discuss longer blocks of tutoring if and when needed.
I am happy to teach students 1-2-1 or in small groups. Lessons would be online, but can be in-person at the student's house if local (I am based in Southampton).
