About Karen
About me: hello! I have been in academia for many years, and have taught and tutored many different types of students: old and young, remedial and advanced, organized and disorganized, etc. There is no judgment in my classroom/tutor-room !! I prefer tutoring high school and college/university students, and have taught or tutored in the following topics: Algebra I & II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I,
II, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Statistics for Business Students, Probability, Combinatorics, History of Mathematics.
I am a Professor. I enjoy tutoring different topics. There is no judgment in my classroom - in person or online.

My tutoring style is based upon the fact that I am the employee, and the student is the employer. I try to make every minute count.
During the first one or two sessions, I will pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses of the student. We will work on these weaknesses until they are clear. I try to encourage, and give small hints, but I typically like to let the student take their time until their "aha" moment. T
I like to verify that the student has the fundamental basis and concepts to conquer their class, and will gently point out that somewhere along the way, they either forgot x, y, or z, or their teacher was going too fast, and then just teach the framework myself.
When I do not know how to solve a problem (it happens!), instead of wasting the tutoree's time and $$, I promise them I will write the problem up, and send via email as soon as I have time so they don't forget.
I remind the student that I am their employer, so they should ask for what they need. I reiterate throughout the session that there is absolutely no judgment throughout our tutoring process.
In short: patience, pleasant attitude, let the student have a bigger say than if it were a class, no judgment, and a very lenient cancellation policy. We all get sick, or tired, or busy. I usually ask for 2 hours prior to the appointment.
