About Nicole
I graduated with my PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology in 2017. My dissertation work was primarily focused on cellular and cancer biology, specifically on growth factor receptors that are hyperactive and unpredictable in breast cancer cells. I have over 6 years of teaching experience at the college level, spanning disciplines of genetics, general biology, human anatomy and physiology, and biochemistry. I've termed my teaching philosophy 'triple E', which stands for Evidence, Engagement, and Energy! Science in general is negatively stigmatized as being boring and hard, but it doesn't have to be! I do not believe in relying on textbooks to master complex biological concepts. I enjoy (and thrive) taking challenging topics and relating these to real-world evidence, data and scenarios that apply to our everyday lives. Get ready to be engaged- I won't be yapping your ear off for extended periods of time. I don't want to do that, and I'm sure you don't either. Biology is all about asking and answering questions, which is exactly how you should be learning! One of my favorite teaching methods entails providing my students with prompts and exercises that are not only relatable to the course content, but also promote critical thinking and independent problem-solving (more core Biology skills). Lastly, as if you couldn’t already tell, I have a lot of energy and so do my teaching lessons. I’m excited about biology and I want you to be too! At the end of our lesson, I guarantee you will have learned a lot and had some fun during the process.
