I'm friendly, patient and motivated by helping people understand.
I have a PhD in mathematics from Glasgow University, and spent 25 years as an academic, teaching students from all sorts of backgrounds.
I have tutored privately for a number of years, helping students of all ages and all levels improve their confidence in maths.

I am a highly experienced mathematics tutor with a doctorate in mathematics and over 20 years’ experience supporting students across the Scottish secondary and university curriculum, including National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher Mathematics, as well as university preparation.
I specialise in helping students:
• Develop strong conceptual understanding of mathematics, not just exam techniques
• Build confidence with Higher and Advanced Higher topics, including calculus, algebra, and proof
• Prepare successfully for Advanced Higher assessments and the transition to university-level mathematics
My teaching approach is clear, patient, and rigorous, tailored to the individual needs of each student. I focus on identifying gaps in understanding, explaining challenging ideas in accessible ways, and developing strong problem-solving skills.
I have extensive experience working with:
• Students aiming for competitive university courses
• Learners who are capable but lack confidence
• Students who need ideas explained in a different way to fully grasp them
I am PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) checked, reliable, and professional. I work closely with students — and with parents where appropriate — to set clear goals, monitor progress, and build long-term confidence in mathematics.
