About Alex
I have just finished writing my thesis on superconducting spintronics but enjoy all aspects of physics particularly astrophysics. Alongside my degree and PhD I have been an international swimmer for ten years, competing in two Commonwealth games. In my spare time I like to watch lots of sports including football, F1, rugby and cricket as well as play video and board games

Alongside my PhD I enjoy teaching undergraduate students, this has enabled me to become a competent teacher and given me valuable lessons in how to interact with different students to get the best out of them. It is important for me to build the students' confidence so that they can take ownership of their own growth and that they feel comfortable asking questions so we can work together to reach their goals. I have found that empathetic communication key to this work, particularly in the lead up to exams where some students can find the workload highly stressful. This is even more true for A level and GCSE students that I am available to tutor. A typical lesson length is 45 minutes with room to adapt to the client's needs, the structure of each lesson can vary depending on the goal in mind.
