About Ava
Hi, my name is Ava! This May, I will graduate with a degree in Biology and will be in my gap year before I go to medical school in the summer of 2027. I know firsthand the pressure of protecting your GPA for medical, dental, and PA school. I also know that with the right guidance, the classes that are typically known as "weed-out" classes can become your strongest subjects.
I bring over two years of professional experience as a Chemistry tutor at Miami University’s Rinella Learning Center. Through this role, I was trained in academic coaching, which means I don't just teach the material, but I teach you how to learn it efficiently. Furthermore, my induction into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society, representing being in the top 10% of my graduating class, shows discipline, time management, and the standard of excellence I will bring to every session.
I tutor Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. I understand that these courses can feel overwhelming, but my approach is built on the philosophy that these subjects are about visualization and logic, not rote memorization. I know how to help students who may feel stuck and not even know where to start by breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps.
Whether you are feeling overwhelmed by the pace and material of the course or you are simply looking to refine your mastery of the material, I am here to provide the structured, professional support you need to achieve your goals.

Throughout my time in undergrad, being in these classes myself and then tutoring them, I have found that practice problems are extremely efficient for Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. Both these classes are visualization and logic over rote memorization, which is important to implement in our sessions. Another small but important factor I always check in my sessions is to make sure you are using your professor's class page to its full potential. Many professors may offer practice problems or old exams that many students never find.
For example, if I were going through a session:
1. I would take is going through the lecture material to help any questions on the material come back to you, as well as make sure we hit all the important points of the chapter.
2. I would make sure to target all those gray areas we just talked about, asking you quick questions to help implement those concepts that confused you.
3. Next, I say, is the most crucial part, which is problem-solving. This part helps really solidify the concepts we just covered. Starting with more basic problems and diving into more difficult ones as you gain more confidence.
4. We will go over the practice problems completed. I always recommend students make flashcards for any topics they miss while doing practice problems, as a reminder of what to look out for next time you do a problem.
What sets me apart as a tutor is that I already have 2+ years of experience as a chemistry tutor at Rinella Learning Center at Miami University. I have been trained in academic coaching and know how to help students who feel stuck. My induction into Phi Beta Kappa honors society is a testament to my own academic discipline, and I bring that same standard to every session I teach.
My primary focus is supporting students through the extremely difficult courses required for medical, dental, and PA school. Whether you are navigating Organic Chemistry I & II or Biochemistry, I am here to provide the clarity and study plans necessary to help protect your GPA for your future applications.
