About Mr
I taught at schools in Hong Kong when I lived there. Now I am a stay-at-home father in the UK who also does a lot of home renovation. I am a very practical and personable person. Years ago I taught English in China. I am a very patient person and I believe in using our time to grow and make ourselves stronger. It is important to me to work hard and live the characteristics I want to see in my students. But I have never liked just telling people to work hard. Who ever 'worked hard' because someone told them to? Instead, I try to make things like time with me in lessons interesting and fun. This can be so easy in science because there are so many interesting things to learn. Where it is harder, like in pure maths or English practices, I tend to rely more on having a good relationship with my students. This could be general chit-chat, involving the student's personal opinions or sometimes being silly - all with the objective of improving the ability of the student in that topic.

There are 2 approaches I most often do. One approach is an exam-focused approach where students want help with specific exams like GCSEs or A-levels and so I tend to go through papers. This helps me identify misconceptions and gaps in a student's understanding, which I can then support. The other approach is an ongoing course to support what students are doing at school. I negotiate this with the student, but will use different materials to what the student uses in school to help them have a fresh perspective.
Most often students don't want homework, so I am flexible about this because I think they should prioritise their own school's work.
