About Shourya

As a tutor, I can assure my students I will do everything in my power to help them understand physics. I will always go above and beyond to provide comprehensive physics education as well as guidance in personal and academic matters.

In my experience as a tutor, I have helped many students improve their performance in math and science. Considering my rigorous background in physics and my own experiences with the challenges arising from the subject, I am prepared to guide students on their academic journey and enrich their professional and personal lives with the intellectual satisfaction that physics offers.

There are two sides of physics. There is a side of physics that is very practical and qualitative that gives us intuition about the fundamental phenomena that govern our world. This is the side of physics that explains why helicopters can fly or why you can skip stones across a river or why hot air balloons can fly. In other words, this is the cool side of physics.

On the other hand, there is another side of physics that is technical and quantitative. This is often the side that gives students the most trouble, especially students who struggle with math. The important thing to realize is that these two sides are interconnected. Many of our intuitions about the world are baseless without the mathematical machinery that explains them. On the flip side, our mathematical endeavors are nothing but dull and meaningless unless they are motivated by an application to the real world.

As a result of this dichotomy, I believe a strong mathematical background is paramount to becoming successful in physics. In truth, we tend to grasp the intuitive physics ideas just be living in the real world, but the math is often very unintuitive to us. Depending on my student's mathematical needs, I put a significant focus on math in my lessons. Often, I start by strengthening the mathematical fundamentals in a vacuum before even discussing any physics. Then, I try to get my students to understand how their physics problems are almost identical to the math problems they have already done.

On the other hand, while the technical side of physics is important, the conceptual side is still worth focusing on in lessons. I always try to get my students to avoid drowning in equations and to understand that the conceptual ideas of physics lean heavily on the mathematical results. Thus, my approach to teaching is different from the traditional approach in that it is all about connections between these two very different sides of physics.

My lesson plans are highly customizable according to the needs of the student. These lessons are primarily aimed at high school (9th-12th grade) and college (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior) physics. The student has flexibility to structure their time into blocks. Every student has 1-8 blocks of time available per session and each block can be occupied by one of the following

Math primer (10-15 min):
- A short review of a mathematics concept.

Math lecture (30-50+ min):
- A rigorous lecture on a math topic (or multiple math topics).

Mini lecture (10-15 min):
- A short review of a physics concept.

Physics lecture (30-50+ min):
- A rigorous lecture on a physics topic (or multiple physics topics).

Guided problem solving session (flexible):
- Work practice problems with instructor's help
- Student can work on homework problems or textbook problems
- If the student has no problems, the instructor has access to many good problems for all levels of physics.

Test prep (flexible):
- Work independently on a practice test, check answers, and get explanations to solutions with tutor's help.
- Great for AP, SAT, high school, or college tests.

Chat (5-10 min):
- Casual talk about anything at all!
- Feel like the pressures of academics are too much for you? Dealing with imposter syndrome? Don't feel like you have what it takes? Trust me, I've been there, and I can help you overcome these tough times.
- I am not a therapist or anything like that, but I am a very good listener.
