About Hazel
With 8 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Piano Studies, I bring a mindful and holistic approach to piano instruction. I believe that learning music is not just about technique but also about cultivating calm and focus. That’s why I integrate mindfulness and relaxation techniques into every lesson, helping students create a balanced and enjoyable practice routine. Many of my students have found this approach especially helpful in managing stage anxiety and performing with confidence. I encourage gentle progress, nurturing both musical skills and emotional well-being. My teaching style is patient and supportive, tailored to meet each student’s unique needs. I have a special interest in working with adult learners who want to explore music as a form of wellness and self-care. My teaching approach focuses on helping learners build musical fluency right from the very first lesson. I emphasize finger independence through targeted exercises, making sure each finger gains strength and control. Reading fluency is key, so I guide students to recognize notes and rhythms quickly, turning sheet music into music they can play confidently. Real-time rhythm training helps develop a strong sense of timing and groove, essential for all styles. I also include duet playing to encourage listening skills, teamwork, and musical conversation.
I adapt lessons to match each student’s pace and goals, creating a fun and supportive environment. Some students thrive when learning popular music, while others focus on music for community and worship settings. I provide personalized guidance that nurtures both technical skills and emotional connection to the music. My goal is to help every student express themselves freely on the piano. With step-by-step motivation and a clear structure, students gain confidence and joy in their playing. Together, we turn practice into a rewarding musical journey.
