About Neriah
My name is Neriah, and ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated by the stories, ideas, and events that shape our world. Whether it was learning about ancient civilizations, exploring different mythologies, understanding political systems, or advocating for environmental causes, I was always driven by a desire to understand how societies develop and why people think and act the way they do.
That passion began early. As a member of Earth Rangers, I developed a strong appreciation for environmental stewardship and community involvement. Throughout high school, I participated in advocacy initiatives and continued seeking opportunities to learn beyond the classroom. Over the years, I have volunteered at museums and historical sites, engaged with diverse multicultural communities, and dedicated thousands of hours to independent study in Canadian history, world history, political science, religion, international affairs, and cultural traditions.
These experiences taught me that education is about much more than memorizing facts. The most meaningful learning happens when students understand the connections between ideas, events, and the world around them. It is one thing to know what happened in history; it is another to understand why it happened and how its effects can still be seen today.
As a tutor, my goal is to help students build that deeper understanding. I encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and thoughtful discussion while creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring new perspectives. Whether a student is preparing for an exam, improving their essay-writing skills, or trying to better understand a challenging topic, I work to make learning engaging, approachable, and rewarding.
I believe that every student is capable of growth when they are given the right support and encouragement. My lessons are tailored to each individual's needs, learning style, and goals, helping them not only improve academically but also develop the confidence to think independently and engage with the world around them.

My teaching approach focuses on understanding rather than memorization.
I help students break down complex historical, political, and cultural topics into clear concepts they can explain in their own words.
Lessons are interactive and discussion-based, encouraging students to ask questions, evaluate sources, and develop critical thinking skills.
I adapt my teaching style to each student's learning pace and goals, whether they need help with coursework, essay writing, exam preparation, or general subject understanding.
What sets me apart:
What sets me apart is my ability to connect historical, political, and cultural topics to real-world events and broader human experiences. Through years of independent study, volunteering at historical sites, and engaging with multicultural communities, I have developed a strong ability to explain complex ideas in a clear and relatable way.
My lessons are structured around discussion, critical thinking, and practical application rather than simple memorization. Every student learns differently, so I adapt the pace and focus of each lesson to their goals, whether they are preparing for an exam, improving their essays, or developing a deeper understanding of a subject.
1. Review and Goal Setting (5–10 minutes)
* Discuss any questions from previous lessons or coursework.
* Review key concepts that may need reinforcement.
* Identify specific goals for the current session.
This allows me to understand where the student is struggling and ensures we focus on the areas that will provide the most value.
2. Exploring the Core Topic (20–30 minutes)
* Introduce and explain the main concept or subject.
* Break down complex ideas into clear, manageable parts.
* Use historical events, political developments, mythology, and current examples to provide context.
Rather than asking students to memorize information, I focus on helping them understand why events happened, how ideas developed, and how different perspectives influence interpretation.
3. Analysis and Application (15–20 minutes)
* Analyze primary and secondary sources.
* Discuss case studies and historical examples.
* Practice building arguments supported by evidence.
* Work through assignments, essays, or exam questions when applicable.
This stage helps students move beyond remembering information and develop the ability to think critically, evaluate evidence, and communicate their ideas effectively.
4. Reflection and Next Steps (5–10 minutes)
* Summarize the most important concepts covered.
* Clarify any remaining questions.
* Identify strengths and areas for improvement.
* Provide recommendations for further study or preparation before the next lesson.
By the end of each session, students leave with a stronger understanding of the material, greater confidence in their analytical abilities, and practical strategies they can apply both in and outside the classroom.
