About June
I am an active writer and performer on upright and electric bass, guitar, and vocals in the Los Angeles area. I am usually playing 8-15 shows a month as a bandleader and sideman, as well as regular recording sessions and the occasional tours. Most of my work these days is for singer-songwriters in the folk and indie rock genres, but I have over 10 years of professional experience playing jazz, musical theater, classical, bluegrass, country, metal, top 40s covers, and more!
I have two degrees in music. My undergrad is in jazz bass from the University of Cincinnati's College Conservatory of Music (CCM), and my masters is in performance and composition from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). I studied bass, voice and guitar as well as music theory, songwriting, arranging, and played in many different kinds of ensembles including orchestras, jazz bands, Balkan music, Ghanaian music, musical theater, and much more.
I also have my own solo singer songwriter project with which I perform regularly and am in the process of recording my first album. You can find me as June Youngblood wherever you stream music :)

Hi! I'm June (she/they).
My favorite thing about teaching is seeing my students gain confidence and find joy in making music. Whether I am building a solid foundation of positive experiences for a young student, or working with an older student overcome trauma from harmful teachers in the past - I want to help you integrate music learning as a sustainable and fulfilling lifelong practice!
I offer lessons in:

- singing (basic technique, how to sing harmonies, writing lyrics and melodies)
As a teacher you can expect me to build a custom plan for you to reach your goals that includes structured exercises, learning music that inspires you, studying music theory as it pertains to your area of study, self care practices, and time to play with and explore your instrument in a fun and non-judgmental manner.
As a guitarist and bassist I have taught a wide variety of styles (jazz. classical, rock, folk, fingerstyle, etc), but my favorite students to work with are involved with writing their own music. I love integrating music theory, composition and singing into my instrumental teaching practices.

Perfect! June is an excellent teacher!! She is able to explain complex ideas in easy to understand terms, and brought a really nice blend of music fundamentals alongside tips for performing, learning songs I was interested in, and making it enjoyable. She brought me from never having picked up an upright bass to playing my first jazz gig. I was skeptical of learning online but she was able to make it work, including giving feedback on technique. Would highly recommend to anyone!
