About Jessica
Hello and nice to meet you! My name is Jessica Lobel and I am currently a grade 4 teacher based in Calgary. My broad range of experience teaching students from a wide variety of countries with different language backgrounds is what sets me apart as an English tutor. I am skillfully trained and experienced with how to teach English and English literacy skills to students of all ages, with a variety of levels of English, including no English at all! I am passionate about teaching reading and writing and I find great joy in helping my students to succeed, while also having fun! - I teach English with a phonetics-based approach, through engaging activities and games.
- A typical lesson involves review of previously learned skills, a specific new skill to learn and activities and games to support learning. There are always audio, visual, and kinesthetic components to lessons to keep students engaged and to support their learning.
- Lessons are targeted to people of all ages who need support with their English development. They can be adapted depending on student age.
- As an example for adult students in Korea and in Turkey, I tutored with a primary focus on developing speaking and listening skills, based on news and current affairs. This method helped students to be ready to use their conversational skills in the real world.
