About Derushka
I am an aspiring teacher with a strong academic background and a passion for Mathematics and Natural Sciences & Technology.
I have been accepted to study a Bachelor of Education in Intermediate Phase (Grades 4–6), specialising in Mathematics and Natural Sciences & Technology at the University of South Africa (UNISA) in 2027. As 2027 will be my first year studying Education, I am excited to begin developing my practical teaching skills and gaining valuable experience working with learners.
I matriculated in 2020 with 7 distinctions, achieving 87% for Mathematics and 91% for Life Sciences in my final year mark.
Before pursuing Education, I was a medical student at WITS University, where I developed strong skills in scientific thinking, problem-solving, understanding complex concepts and working independently.
Although I am new to formal teaching, I am patient, dedicated and eager to learn. I see tutoring as an opportunity to develop my teaching skills while providing learners with meaningful academic support.
My goal is to create a friendly and encouraging online learning environment where Grade 4–6 learners can ask questions freely, understand challenging concepts and build confidence in Mathematics and Natural Sciences & Technology.
I look forward to growing as an educator while helping each learner reach their full potential.

My goal:
To create a patient and encouraging learning environment where every child feels comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and learning at their own pace.

My Teaching Methodology
My teaching approach is learner-centred, patient and supportive, with the purpose of helping each learner develop a strong understanding of concepts and confidence.
I believe that every learner has a different pace and learning style. I therefore adapt my lessons according to each learner's individual needs, strengths and areas for improvement.
1. Assess
I begin by identifying the learner's current level of understanding and areas where they may need additional support.
2. Explain
I break difficult concepts into smaller, manageable steps and use simple explanations, examples, diagrams and real-life situations to make learning easier to understand.
3. Reinforce
Lessons include revision, short quizzes and additional practice to strengthen understanding and identify concepts that may need further attention.
4. Build Confidence
I create a positive environment where learners feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Mistakes are treated as opportunities to learn and improve.
5. Monitor Progress
I keep track of the learner's progress and provide feedback to parents on strengths, areas for improvement and topics covered.
