About Sophie
I am a Primary School Teacher in Sydney, Australia. I hold a Bachelor of Primary Education (Honours) Degree.
While I was studying for my bachelor, I worked as a sports coach, and primary school tutor, focusing on helping students with homework, exam prep and catching up on tricky areas in class.
Over the last five years I have worked in three prestigious schools in Sydney where I have taught students from Kindergarten to Year 8. During this time I also coordinated the debating club, film club and environment club.
I love experimental classes and practical lessons, where students get to discover the learning for themselves. To me, the most important things about learning any subject are being clear on your goals and keeping up your motivation. That is why I bring the topics to life using real-life examples to make the concepts clearer.
I have a very driven teaching style I act as a learning coach giving you tips and teaching you how to study on your own. I usually try to answer the question of why are you learning this? and how far you can reach. I start the first lesson by going over your goals and checking your current level, especially your weaknesses but also your strengths. This helps us manage expectations and keeps us on track for future lessons and learning plans. I create interdisciplinary and fun lesson plans tailored to different students' backgrounds. I have also been highlighted due to foster a positive learning environment with mutual respect and critical thinking and analysis of art and society.
I can break down complicated topics into simpler, straightforward ideas. You can bring any topic you are struggling in and we will work on it together or you can ask for a specific topic and I'll prepare a lesson for you. In my lessons, I usually use google docs, screen sharing, pdf textbooks, and free online resources like applets or videos. I prefer to give out homework for you to do in your own time and we will check it at the beginning of the next lesson.

I aim to help my students by finding teaching and study methods that work for them! I offer personalised study plans to ensure that learning continues outside of our lessons and that they feel supported and confident. The lessons themselves are based around what each student is learning at school - and are geared to assist them with assignments and general understanding of each topic whilst improving their overall skills.

Sophie started tutoring my son at the beginning of the year in Maths, and we can't believe how much he has improved. He's gone from hating maths to it being one of his favourite subjects. Sophie really took to time to get to know Ben and he really enjoys their weekly lessons. I cannot recommend Sophie enough if you are looking for a tutor!
Sophie is a very friendly and flexible tutor. She has helped my daughter to improve her reading and writing skills to help her catch up on concepts she hasn't understood at school. I would definitely recommend Sophie if you are looking for a tutor for your primary school aged child.
