About Max
My teaching experience began fortuitously, as many of my neighbors in Toronto needed a better grasp of French to help their professional development (2012). Being bilingual since birth, I found myself taking great pleasure in sharing my knowledge with these students, and I finally decided to teach drums to children at a music-oriented community center (2014). More recently, during my time at university, I was asked to help many of my peers who, coming from abroad, did not have the required English skills to study in post-secondary (2014-2017). My background has allowed me to teach several different subjects (English and French as well as music) and as such I have a good understanding of the expectations of a student towards their teacher, as well as the tools and methods to teach foreign languages.

I am a young Québéco-ontarian (my mother is from Toronto, and my father was born in Montreal) and from an early age I found myself explaining grammatical and cultural differences between my two cultures to the people around me. Since then, I have taught several disciplines (French, English, music), taking care not to discourage my students, to rethink their difficulties with them, and to bring them to have greater confidence in their target field.
Furthermore, through my experience translating academic articles, I have been able to reflect on the transmission of a message from one language to another, enabling me to communicate effectively with my students, regardless of their age or mother tongue.
Finally, my Canadian-American identity will be an important asset for immersing my students in a specific culture, as I can provide any necessary cultural context they might need. I am extremely enthusiastic about sharing my knowledge with French students, having just arrived in Lyon!
I can also help you prepare a TOEFL, TOEIC or other CEFR (A1 to C2). I will always take care to encourage you and take the time to explain thoroughly. My courses can be oriented towards several particular skills (we can do as much oral, written work, interaction, or grammar as you like).
