About Carina
Carina is a London-based freelance flautist and teacher who graduated with Distinction from the Master of Music in Performance programme at the Royal College of Music where she was also awarded the RCM Flute Prize. Her studies were supported by Help Musicians UK, the Kathleen Trust and the Black Heart Foundation.
Previously, Carina completed her Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours at the Royal Northern College of Music, where she received the Fewkes Prize and the June Emerson Launchpad Award. Throughout her training, she took part in numerous masterclasses, orchestral projects and professional development programmes, working with principal players and leading musicians from major orchestras across the UK and Europe.
Her performing experience spans solo, chamber and orchestral playing. She has performed alongside musicians from ensembles including Manchester Camerata, the Hallé and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, participated in the BBC Philharmonic’s professional experience scheme, and recorded at Abbey Road Studios. As a soloist, she has performed with a philharmonic orchestra in Romania and was awarded the Ion Vidu Prize following successes in competitions in Romania, Hungary and Serbia. She was also a finalist in the RNCM Concerto Competition in both 2020 and 2021.
Carina first attended the British Isles Music Festival as a scholarship student in 2019 and has since remained closely involved with organising the festival.
As a teacher, Carina believes that music should first and foremost be something that brings enjoyment, curiosity and a sense of expression. Her lessons are therefore shaped around each student as an individual, whether they are working towards exams and diplomas, developing their technique and sound, preparing repertoire for performances and auditions, or simply wanting to enjoy playing the flute with greater confidence.
Alongside classical training, Carina is also happy to explore different styles of music with her students, including developing an understanding of improvisation, musical freedom and how the flute can fit naturally into different genres and ensemble settings. Her aim is to give students a strong technical foundation while helping them become versatile, expressive and independent musicians.

Throughout my musical journey, I’ve been fortunate to learn from many inspiring musicians and flute players, and I would love to pass that knowledge on to my students.
Regardless of age or level, I aim to teach more than simply how to play the flute. I like to help students understand the music itself, including the historical background, style and performance practice behind the repertoire we are studying. I also believe that teaching is a two-way process, and I am always open to learning from my students as much as they learn from me.
Lessons will usually cover several areas: developing flute technique through scales, tone and finger exercises; working on repertoire; and exploring the music theory, history and stylistic context connected to the pieces being studied.
Where appropriate, we can also explore improvisation, different musical genres and ways of using the flute beyond the traditional classical repertoire.
At the end of each lesson, I provide ideas for a practice plan, with clear goals and areas to focus on before the next session, so that students can make the most of their practice time and continue progressing independently.
