About Thodoris

I have been teaching guitar to both adults and children for over 15 years both in music schools and privately. Each student comes with a story and an individual passion for music. I am always thrilled to help them tell that story, learn what moves them, and foster their creativity - all through music! I was awarded 1st prize in “SMALL BAND” category (The Next Step Quintet) at the «Made in New York Jazz competition» performing at Tribeca theatre of Arts, New York and throughout my career I have collaborated with several world-class musicians such as Shigeru Umembayashi, Tivon Pennicott, J.D Walter, Gilad Atzmon, David Lynch (saxophone), George Kontrafouris and many more. Music is my preferred language and I can teach you to be fluent too!

Music is the ultimate human language and together we can learn how to express ourselves and communicate with it! Every lesson is tailored to the needs and interests of each student so you can reach your goals as quickly as possible. Together we will develop the skills that will help you better understand music, composition, improvisation, musical expression and ultimately ourselves. I have been a professional jazz guitarist and composer with over 20 years of international performances and session recordings to my credit. For over 15 years I have had the pleasure to teach students from all levels and musical backgrounds, from beginners to professionals, always trying to find ways to help each one grow musically and find their own path. Many are now studying in some of the world's top Jazz schools (Graz, Gronigen, Utrecht, Ionian University and more) and several have become professional musicians, performing and recording around the world with various artists.

Find out more about Thodoris

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I started playing music at 7 but I thought of becoming a musician when I was 12..It was after a concert where I saw an amazing bass player playing. Since then I've heard, met and played with a lot of musicians that keep feeding my passion for music.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I guess I really like jazz music. There are some albums I listen to for years without getting bored at all. There are also some rock bands that i really like the way they treat melody, harmony and rhythm such as Radiohead, Queen, King Crimson, Jiimi Hendrix, Rolling Stones, Beatles and many more. And of course some great classical composers such as Brahms, Debusy, Chopin...
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

To me what most people need is inspiration and the key to be patient. That's a good way to have fun with music even if you are/are not a professional musician. The information, scales, chords and different techniques are all around the internet but most of the time this is just frustrating without the appropriate guidance.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I would say violin and all these fretless instruments because you really have to develop a great pair of ears..Otherwise it's risky :)
  • What are your keys to success?

To me success is to finish each day, month or year feeling a little better and a little wiser. That means you need to know what you should work on and why, find the right balance and always accept that there are going to be "not so good" days too. Do your best and accept whatever comes from this.
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

I would say Allan Holdsworth because to me he was THE TRUE GUITAR GENIUS
Julian Lage because he is so talented and seems to be a really nice guy
And Steve Vai because he was my first real guitar hero.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

I wanted so badly to be good at music that at the end I wanted to quit.. Thankfully I didn't..
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I'm not sure..Maybe the fact that I had to find my own way in solving problems during my musical growth helped me in finding solutions for other people too.
It's always a good confirmation to watch your students entering in some of the best schools around the world, or listen to their albums. Plus I'm a good guy :)
