About Oliver
After being brought up in the Salvation Army by a family of cornet players, I quickly gained a large passion for performance that goes much deeper than playing as a hobby. To me playing is a vocation.
I daylight as a Rolex Sales Consultant, and as such I have excellent communication skills. I am confident in my ability to teach passion and impart intrigue - not just have a student play in our lesson once a week.
My passion manifested physically and took me down the professional route of playing. I studied music through GCSE, A-Level and studied under Ian Porthouse and Richard Marshall at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. All the while, I performed with some of the finest championship section brass bands, and worked in the professional arena at festivals, concerts and weddings.
Whilst teaching comes naturally to me, I absolutely love it. I challenge you to find a tutor as passionate as I.
I've studied under unenthused tutelage myself - that's not me.

I am a professionally trained cornetist with over a decade of formal performance study, and solo and ensemble performance.
I specialise in developing confident, technically excellent brass players - whether just starting out, preparing for graded examinations, conservatoire auditions, or refining an already high level of performance for those who play professionally or vocationally.
My lessons are structured, intentional, and result driven. Each one of my students leaves with clarity on exactly what to practise, and how.
In my experience, brass playing requires a very strong baseline of technique to reach excellence and having studied the art of brass playing intensely for a decade, I can provide an exact roadmap on how it's done.

Oliver and I met some time ago whilst the two of us were at university. We became very good friends.
He introduced me to the world of brass playing, I started coming to a few of his concerts and the like, and I found that there’s more to music than pop, like I originally thought.
I’ve never known a guy to talk so much about music! I’ve got to give it to him, the guy is full of passion.
He started teaching me cornet, a couple of lessons a week. I was absolutely hopeless if I’m honest…
He taught me not only how to play, but how to love it - and I’ve never stopped. Now I’m not half bad, even if I do say so myself. I can read music and understand music, perform to a good standard and have developed a great foundational technique (in his words!).
He was always incredibly patient through my hopelessness, and just would not let me quit.
As a student and as a friend, I couldn’t recommend the man more.I met Oliver through work, he expressed such enthusiasm for music I had to take him up on his offer for tuition. I had always wanted to pick up a brass instrument.
He’s always been so supportive day or night, and I couldn’t recommend him more.
I started of as a complete beginner and he not only taught me a really solid baseline of fundamental technique, but now has gotten me hooked.
I expect I’ll be playing for a long, long time to come - and I’ve got Oliver to thank!
Legend.

I feel the price I've set is worthy of the time that I've put into mastering my craft - I don't just teach to earn a living:)
