About Georgia

I am a graduate from Laine Theatre Arts, holding a Level 6 Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre. I also hold A* Qualifications in Music at A-Level and GCSE, alongside Grade 8 ABRSM Pianoforte and Voice certifications with Distinction.

I specialise in both Classical and Musical Theatre voice practices, having trained under the Samling Academy Conservatoire, National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, Sage Gateshead, Youth Music Theatre and finally, the undergraduate programme at Laine Theatre Arts. Alongside this, I am also able to offer piano tuition. My extensive musical knowledge also allows me to specialise in the practice of Music Theory, having studied this at both GCSE and A-Level, as well as gaining ABRSM certified qualifications.

I have been teaching for a few years now; I started with group singing classes, with students continuing to progress on to training with prestigious National Youth Choirs of Great Britain and secure auditions for top West End shows. Following my introduction to teaching, I branched out into one-to-one private lessons, which allow me to hone in on individual technique, work to strengthen the voice, provide voice-specific exercises, and focus on the personal growth of each individual student.

I just love teaching!

When approaching vocal teaching, my lessons always begin with a vocal warm-up - in order to promote safe vocal practice, warming up the muscles of the voice in a similar way that we would warm up the physical muscles before exercising is key. These are then recorded and supplied to each student as online tracks so that they can continue their practice beyond the lesson, and are adapted in alignment with each individual's vocal progression. The main body of the lesson centres upon the needs of the individual - if this is a GCSE-centred lesson (for example), then we will work upon performance-specific pieces, following the exam specifications, whilst also incorporating music theory as we go, which helps with the understanding and recall of the written exam. If the vocal lesson is simply recreational, we will work on the individual's chosen songs and look at them both technically and emotionally, whilst simply having fun.

I believe in designing a specific vocal programme for each individual voice, and thus the first lesson begins with a short rendition of any song by the student. This gives me chance to evaluate the voice fully, and allows me to gage where vocal training should begin from. I can also make judgements on the range and voice type of each student. Another little unique quirk that I like to incorporate into my first lesson is the recording of the short excerpt performed - this is simply kept on file and will be played back to the student months down the line to show how much progress has been made!

Piano lessons are approached slightly differently. When working with beginners who are learning the instrument from brand-new, the first few lessons must be slightly theory-orientated, so that each student can gain a full understanding of the demands of the instrument. We then begin to learn the notes and work each hand individually before progressing to simultaneous hands and beyond. In a similar style to my vocal practice, exercises will be provided for training beyond lesson hours.

Music Theory training is worksheet and games based - I try to make my lessons as interactive as possible, especially for the younger generations.
