About Marc
My name is Marc Phillips and I am from Mill Creek, WA. I coach football at Lake Washington High School and I work with kids as a Behavioral Specialist for my day jobs. Music has been the biggest part of my life since I was a toddler I was raised around brilliant musicians my entire life. While I don’t particularly appreciate talking about personal achievements, my music experience includes: -7-8 years of live performances around Washington and Oregon state as an acoustic guitarist and vocalist in some instances. These are all paid gigs—-5 years of direct guitar teaching/tutoring experience. I have worked around 90 one-on-one sessions (like the format for these lessons) and have worked with over 1000 students in the public education system as a guitar teacher. This would include a few different elementary schools including Canyon Creek in Bothell, WA as one example. -I have about 17 years of acoustic guitar experience and my current career includes high school football coaching at Lake Washington HS in Kirkland, as well as working as a behavioral therapist within different western school districts in the state of Washington (North Shore, Lake Washington, Everett, Marysville, etc.).

Note: I can provide a practice guitar for in-person lessons for students if needed :)
The main reason I love doing these lessons is because I love spreading the joy of music to others so they may use it in their lives to help them as it has helped me so many times with my own. Please note these lessons are very casual learning and supportive in tone.
My lessons will include completely integrated sessions where you will work with me directly and specifically the entire time. With that being said, please note I am more than open to meeting any student anywhere they would like in their learning (learning specific songs, styles, etc).
Music notation can and will be used if requested, but the majority of lessons will go through technique and the actual playing of music and learning songs rather than writing things down on a piece of paper.
I will have notes to send to each student/parent after every lesson that should cover everything that would be written during the actual lesson and will include specific things to work on until the next lesson. In this way, lessons are most utilized and not wasted by spending time writing etc. I can gear lessons to any specific goal or need and am willing to work with you on any request you may have! Can teach any scales, chords, techniques, and songs surrounding acoustic guitar and my specialty is blues, indie, and rock music.

He is patient and very informative. He will take time to go over different cords and lessons numerous times to help ensure the individual understands the concept. Marc has a wide range of music interests and will expand lessons based on the individuals interests and capabilities.
Marc started teaching me basics and chords a couple years ago. Then he started showing me how to sing as I played. Oddly enough, that helped. Soon the awkward riffs, scales and chords I was struggling with became easier. Then he started showing me tricks as my fingers became stronger, and now I see that passion and passion for music only deepens with practice. I realized recently that I’ve always felt music in bones and soul. Thanks to Marc not giving up on me and giving me his personal pointers for when I’m discouraged, I can speak this language that can move the world…. Music.
He is very kind and informative, he always delivers and keeps his promises! I’ve known Marc for 12 years, and he is as genuine as genuine can be! The thing I like most about Marc is that he takes the time to teach you step by step at your own pace, providing a very positive experience!
Marc is not only an incredibly gifted musician but an even better teacher. He has a rare ability to connect with people and impart his wealth of knowledge that will make you better at guitar and motivated to keep learning more.
