I took this class because I wanted to get more out of coloured pencils. My previous drawings always looked grainy and flat. We experimented with layering, pressure, complementary colours, burnishing and preserving the white of the paper. I loved how technical the process became while still feeling very expressive. The fact that I could follow the lesson from my own studio was an added bonus

I signed up specifically to learn gouache. I wanted something between drawing and painting, but I had no idea how to deal with the opacity of the medium. We experimented with flat shapes, layering, colour mixing and keeping certain areas deliberately simple. The class was relaxed and very practical. I finished the session with a little landscape that I’m genuinely quite proud of.
