About Jeremy
I have been a professional painter for over 30 years and a teacher for 20. My approach is easygoing, ensuring our sessions are as relaxing and enjoyable as they are stimulating.
I believe the key to successful painting isn't just technique; it’s learning to switch off the analytical brain and access the creative side—the part of you that has no voice of its own. I help you bridge that gap.
Learning with me is about more than imagination; it’s about learning to "listen" to a painting until it tells you what it needs. Our lessons are a collaboration where we discuss your work and find the path forward together. This often involves taking risks—even being willing to "destroy" a piece to save it—but that is where the real growth happens.

ABOUT THE LESSON
Our sessions are a creative partnership designed to take you from a blank canvas to a finished work of art. We work together to discover the unique path each painting wants to take as it evolves.
THE CREATIVE JOURNEY
We typically begin with your initial inspiration—whether that is a specific photo, an existing painting, or just a spark of an idea. I help you draw thumbnails of these ideas to bypass the analytical brain and move straight into composition.
During our time together, I provide live demonstrations of techniques and offer hands-on guidance as you apply them. Throughout the process, I encourage taking bold risks—even "destroying" a section to discover a better way forward. This collaborative, interactive process helps us find a path through the painting, which often leads in exciting, unexpected directions.
TECHNIQUES WE EXPLORE TOGETHER:
TEXTURING & PHYSICALITY: Mastering the use of modeling paste and acrylics to build physical depth. We use these to create textures and random marks that stimulate the imagination and suggest new directions for the piece.
OIL PAINTING & GLAZING: Working with quick-drying oils to add fine detail and depth. We use oil glazing to modify colors and create professional luminosity, richness, and depth.
MIXED MEDIA: Exploring oil pastel layering with ink resist and sgraffito (scraping) techniques to add unique, tactile textures.
MODERN IDEATION: We can use AI tools to rapidly generate and explore new ideas—a perfect way to move forward when the painting is "not talking to you." We also draw inspiration from the masters (and the hidden gems) of art history.

This first lesson is free to allow you to get to know your teacher so that they can best meet your needs.

Details
Learning to use my techniques takes time. Both acrylic/oil and oil pastel/ink techniques require 4 sessions, each lasting 3 hours. I can give specific advice and help solve problems with a painting on a one-off basis or over a series of sessions, but learning my main techniques needs more time.
