About Amnael

I am a conservatory-trained professional violist with over 20 years of orchestral and teaching experience.

Although viola is my primary instrument, I also have extensive experience teaching cello and violin: in fact, most of my Superprof students have been cello learners, including adult beginners and committed advanced students.

I teach for Sheffield Music Hub, coach chamber ensembles of all levels, and I currently lead the viola sections of both the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra and the Sheffield Symphony Orchestra.

- I specialise in:

Viola — beginner → conservatoire level

Cello — beginner → advanced / Diploma / pre-conservatoire repertoire

Violin — beginner → advanced (solid foundational technique)

Music theory & chamber coaching

ABRSM / Trinity exam preparation

Confidence, mindset, and efficient practice strategies - especially for returning adults

- Teaching style:

Ridiculously patient

Structured, but relaxed and encouraging

Technique focused: posture, tone, bow control, musical confidence

My approach blends strong technical fundamentals (Russian school influence) with flexible, personalised lessons - always centred around the music you enjoy.

My goal: clear technique, confident sound, and music that genuinely brings you joy.

About the lesson

My lessons are built on a clear, structured approach rooted in the Russian violin and viola school, with an emphasis on relaxed posture, tone production, and musical confidence.

Every student receives a personalised plan based on their goals — whether that’s learning your first piece, preparing for ABRSM/Trinity exams, or working toward advanced repertoire and auditions.

For learning materials, I combine:

- Suzuki School and repertoire-based learning for beginners,

- focused etudes for technique development,

- and the student’s preferred music, so you always enjoy what you play.

I often set long-term musical goals (a piece you want to perform, an audition, a concerto), then break them down into simple weekly steps.

The lesson environment is calm, patient, and structured - perfect for adult beginners, motivated students, and anyone who wants to make real progress without feeling overwhelmed.

My aim is simple: clear technique, confident sound, and music you’re happy to play.

Amnael supported me to return to playing the cello at the age of 50 after 35 years ! He is extremely kind and took the lessons at the pace I needed whilst I gained my confidence, being honest about my strengths and weaknesses . Within a year , he supported me to join the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra - such a boost to my confidence. Thankyou

I’ve had the absolute pleasure of learning from Professor Amnael and I can’t recommend him highly enough. His deep understanding of music theory combined with a clear, engaging teaching style has truly helped me connect the dots in ways I hadn’t before. Every concept is explained with such clarity and musical insight, it feels like unlocking hidden layers of the music.

In addition to theory, his guidance with my bow grip has made a world of difference in my playing. He noticed subtle details I had long overlooked, and his patient, tailored corrections helped me improve my tone and comfort almost immediately.

Amnael is not only a brilliant musician but also a genuinely supportive and thoughtful teacher. I’ve grown so much under his instruction, and I’m incredibly grateful for his encouragement, precision, and musical wisdom.

Thank you, maestro!
