About Jake
'm Jake, an HPCSA Registered Counsellor based in Cape Town. I hold a BSocSci Honours in Psychology from SACAP and a BA in Health Sciences and Social Services from UNISA, so I know both contact and distance learning from the inside.
I have five years of experience across trauma centres, community mental health, adolescent care and crisis intervention. I currently run a private practice and work as a counsellor in a child and adolescent psychiatry department.
I enjoy teaching because I remember how overwhelming psychology can feel, especially at Honours level. I've supervised students on placement and trained counselling students, and I love seeing concepts finally click. My goal is to help you feel confident, not just get through your course.

My lessons are practical and built around you. Before we start, I'll ask how you learn best, whether that's talking concepts through, working with visuals, practising past papers, or breaking down readings step by step. Then I adapt my approach to suit you.
I help undergrad and Honours psychology students with theory, research methods, statistics, essay writing and exam preparation. As a practising HPCSA Registered Counsellor, I bring real-world examples into every session, so theory stops feeling abstract.
A typical lesson starts with a quick check-in on what you're working on. We then tackle the topic together, apply it through examples or practice questions, and end with clear next steps so you know what to focus on before we meet again.
I teach in English, either online or in person in Cape Town.
