About Dave
A vital teacher is a perpetual student who always questions, seeks, researches, listens, and always creates an open, safe environment that invites collaborative dialogue with learners and then challenges those learners to extend that open dialogue into further communities. The learning space should always be a nurturing space where respect, diligence, kindness, boldness, and fun are encouraged. I approach each of my students as a unique individual with whom, together, we are on a journey for knowledge.

As an educator, working artist, art historian, and literary translator, I collaborate with students to create and critically study texts, artworks, and multi-media research materials, and apply our findings to original creative and critical work. These new works can then be offered to public audiences or submitted for publication.
In addition to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels in universities, I also teach in diverse community-based workshops in libraries, senior centers, waiting rooms, prisons, and adult education environments. My work to create socially conscious spaces for learning also often employs my undergraduate and graduate students to work in the field. Moreover, when my undergraduate and graduate students offer their original coursework creations in open forums, we invite members of community-based projects to attend and serve on panels and participate in a dialogue on the texts and subjects.
