About Alex
My writing has appeared in the New York Times, North American Review and several other international publications as well as winning prizes like the David Higham Award and New Writer Novella Prize (UK). I'm a native English speaker from the UK with a BA (First Class Honours) in English Literature from Goldsmiths, University of London, an MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia and a CELTA teaching certificate.
I have over 12 years of experience teaching Academic English, with a specialisation in Academic Writing and Critical Thinking. For the past 3 years, my teaching has focused almost exclusively on 1-1 tutoring. My students have been university undergraduates studying International Relations, Media or Business, and also young people preparing to study abroad.
My approach to tutoring is all about differentiation - that means focusing on each student's individual goals and strengths rather thsn following a formula. We'll also find out which areas of the subject give you least confidence and build from there. From the outset, we'll agree on a plan for your study and a reasonable workload and keep these parameters in mind at all times. Along the way, feel free to ask for my help in issues or difficulties that arise. Finally, I believe we learn best when we love a subject, so we'll always keep it energetic and positive.
