About Heidi
Hi. I am Mrs. Heidi du Preez. I'm a qualified Afrikaans Home Language teacher. I have many years of experience in this field from gr4 up to grade 12. I have worked for the Department of Education since 1997 up to 2022. I early retired from working full-time for the DBE in a public school environment. I would love to teach on an online basis because I can do it from home. Also, my opinion of online teaching is that it's more one-on-one, making the learner or learners more actively involved in their education to increase their success in the language or subject being taught.

Based on the curriculum set by the DBE, I base my lessons on what must be taught. Also, how I can make the prescribed lessons more interesting and understandable for the learners. Afrikaans as a home language can be difficult for some learners because of its technical and structured nature. Therefore, I make the lessons as easy as possible for the learners to understand. For example, when learners struggle with answering comprehension questions, I will first investigate why they struggle and then work with the learners on how to read a comprehension correctly and how to understand the question being asked. Also, how to answer a comprehension question correctly. In other words, a good teacher like myself will basically teach a comprehension to the learners. The level or standard of teaching required will depend on the grade or grades I'm teaching.
