  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in finance and accounting developed early during my academic years, particularly while pursuing Chartered Accountancy. I was always curious about how numbers translate into real business decisions, whether it is managing cash flows, evaluating performance, or identifying risks. As I progressed through professional firms such as PwC (A.F. Ferguson), Deloitte, EY, and later into industry roles, that curiosity matured into a deep appreciation for structured financial thinking and problem‑solving.
My interest in tutoring began somewhat naturally during my training years. I often found myself helping juniors and colleagues understand complex accounting standards, audit concepts, or financial models. Over time, I realized that I enjoyed breaking down technical topics into simple, logical steps and seeing the “aha moment” when concepts finally clicked for someone. Private tutoring allows me to combine my professional experience with this passion for mentoring and knowledge‑sharing in a more personalized way.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I mainly teach Accounting, Finance, and related professional subjects, including Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Financial Reporting (IFRS), Audit, Budgeting, Forecasting, and Financial Modelling. I particularly enjoy topics that connect theory with real‑world application—such as cash flow forecasting, working capital management, business performance analysis, and understanding financial statements beyond mere calculations.
I also enjoy discussing how accounting and finance operate in real organizations: how controls work, why numbers sometimes differ from expectations, and how financial information is used by management, investors, and regulators. These discussions help students move beyond exam‑oriented learning toward practical understanding.
If I had to choose topics I enjoy a little less, it would be areas that rely purely on rote memorization without context. Even then, I try to bring practical examples so students can see why a rule exists, not just what the rule is.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, I was fortunate to learn from several senior professionals and mentors during my Chartered Accountancy training and Big 4 experience. Rather than one single teacher, it was their collective approach that inspired me—especially those who emphasized understanding over memorization and encouraged asking “why” instead of blindly following procedures.
Some of my seniors had a remarkable ability to explain complex accounting treatments or audit issues in a structured and calm manner. Observing how they mentored juniors influenced my own teaching style today: patient, logical, and focused on building confidence rather than fear around difficult subjects.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor must first understand the student, not just the subject. Every student learns differently, and adapting explanations accordingly is essential. Patience, clarity of thought, and the ability to simplify complex ideas are critical qualities.
In my view, a strong tutor should also be practical and honest—acknowledging where students struggle and addressing gaps without judgment. Especially in professional subjects like accounting or finance, linking concepts to real scenarios helps students retain knowledge and apply it confidently in exams and professional life.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During my Chartered Accountancy training, I remember struggling with certain IFRS concepts that seemed overly technical at first. One day, a senior explained the entire standard using a simple business story instead of formulas and journal entries. That single explanation transformed my understanding and changed how I approached learning complex topics.
That experience stayed with me. Today, when I tutor, I consciously try to start with the business logic behind a concept before diving into calculations or technical requirements. Students often tell me this approach makes topics far less intimidating.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still face in your subject?

Like many students in accounting and finance, I initially found the volume and technical depth of professional syllabi challenging. Balancing conceptual understanding with exam technique was not easy, especially during my early training years.
However, these challenges taught me discipline, time management, and the importance of structured revision. Even today, the field continues to evolve—with new standards, technologies, and regulations—so continuous learning remains part of the profession. This helps me relate well to students, as I understand firsthand what it means to feel overwhelmed and how to overcome it.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion lies in helping people develop confidence in finance and accounting, especially those who believe the subject is “too difficult” for them. Teaching gives me the opportunity to make complex ideas accessible and to show students that with the right approach, these subjects are logical and even enjoyable.
Beyond teaching, I am particularly interested in how financial information supports decision‑making—forecasting, performance management, and financial transformation. Sharing these practical insights with students is something I genuinely enjoy.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

What distinguishes me as a Superprof is the combination of strong academic grounding and extensive real‑world experience. Having worked across Big 4 firms and senior industry roles in different regions, I bring practical insights that go far beyond textbooks.
I focus on clarity, real‑life examples, and building strong fundamentals, not just helping students pass exams. My goal is to ensure students feel confident applying what they learn—whether in exams, internships, or professional roles. I am genuinely invested in my students’ progress, and I measure success not just by results, but by long‑term understanding.
