About Shirley

My name is Shirley and I am 59 years old. I am from Chennai, India. I have been an English teacher for the past 37 years and retired recently. I am here on this platform to teach again and help as many more students as I can. So join my class and let's get better at the language together.

About the lesson

My teaching method differs from student to student and it's more of an individual approach than that of a standard one. I mainly teach school students. The class structure depends on the portions that are to be covered and it's also based on the strengths of the student.

Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?
I developed an interest in this field because of my English teacher. Her teaching methods were captivating and inspiring. She is also one of the reasons why I chose to teach English in particular.
What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?
Again, it was my 8th grade English teacher who inspired me to choose this field. She was very sincere and she genuinely cared for her students.
How does your work help society?
I believe I play a small role in carving the future of a society- ie by moulding students and making them confident in a language that's internationally recognized.
If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?
I have never had a role model other than my English teacher.
Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.
My hobbies include crocheting and gardening.
Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?
I don't have anecdotes as such but the greatest happiness I used to get while working as a school teacher was to see the kids who are struggling with the language pass their examinations.
