About Mel
I am a qualified teacher (BA(Hons), PGCE, Mont. Dip.) with 30 years experience in education. I taught in a range of early years settings, Montessori schools, private and independent and local authority primary schools. I spent 15 years teaching across the primary age range including working as an intervention teacher on a one to one basis and in small groups: skills directly transferable to tutoring. I have loved being a class teacher but the time was right for me to use my teaching skills in a new way. I have been tutoring now for over 5 years.
I offer support online across the primary curriculum including KS1/KS2 SATS prep and 11+. I have supported children with a range of abilities throughout the primary age range. I have raised levels of achievement with UKS2 children where they have achieved over 70% in tests where this had not been achieved before.

I'm a very calm, patient person. I'm organised, prepared and reflective.
I always endeavour to work with parents. Parents know their children best and can provide me with valuable insights into their child. I aways feedback to parents regarding progress.
I will assess your child's understanding and learning style in order to choose resources best suited to support them. I tutor online via Zoom. Using the screen share option I can work interactively with your child, sharing engaging resources we can work on together, making your child feel fully supported in their learning. We will still be able to see each other, even while screen sharing which is important in order to build a trusting relationship.
My aim is to help you support your child, to boost their progress and help them reach their full potential. I usually tutor on a 1-2-1 basis and have worked with children with varying needs and difficulties.
The child is my first priority; understanding their learning style, inspiring confidence and enabling growth in their learning. Supporting them in the understanding that it is okay to make mistakes and learn from them.
