About Matthew
I am a qualified teacher (PGCE 2021, University of Buckingham) and PhD graduate (2019, University of Oxford) with 3.5 years experience teaching maths in secondary schools, including GCSE, A-Level, International Baccalaureate, and Key Stage 3.
I believe that mathematics is fundamentally about finding and describing patterns, and then extending those patterns to new areas and solving new problems. I love to help students explore the world of mathematics and take pride in their work, as well as achieving their potential in formal exams.

I teach using a combination of structured exercises and past exam papers. In each topic, I focus on helping my students understand what the maths represents, and how different areas of maths are related to each other.
I show students how to break down a problem into its parts, understand how each part should be solved, and then put it all together to get a final answer.
I relate what I am teaching to real-world examples, and I give space for students to explore and find out what interests them in maths. The result of all this is students who make real progress in mathematics, and have a sense of satisfaction in what they have learned to do.
