About Bobby
I grew up on Northern California and took the required 2 years of Spanish in high school and got all A's. I thought I was actually learning a new language and so excited with my test scores! Then my church asked me to go live in the Dominican Republic for 2 years for a religious and service mission, and I thought no problem I passed high school Spanish so that will be easy, but boy was I wrong. I realized that most classes teach you how to pass a test, not a new language. Everything from the vocabulary to the accent and even some grammar were completely different than what I encountered there.
Now I'm married with 2 kids, and since my wife is from Mexico we are raising our kids bilingual. We are teaching them words and phrases we use on a daily basis.
I understand the frustration of taking classes only to find they were of no actual value. You will find my classes to be very different in that regard!

Most Spanish lessons focus on very basic phrases. You've heard them, "where is the bathroom?" "Where is the library?" "My name is.... What is your name?" But we all know that's not very useful in day to day conversations and you probably already know these phrases anyway.
Do you have an upcoming trip to a specific country and want to know their lingo? Have friends you're looking to impress? My lessons focus on vocabulary that is used amongst friends, not just in the classroom.
