About Ryan
Hi, I’m Ryan—and I genuinely enjoy helping students feel confident in STEM. I earned my B.S. in Psychology and Biology from UC San Diego and later completed my M.D. at Loyola University Chicago. That path gave me a deep, practical understanding of biology, chemistry, physics, and math, and it also taught me how to explain complicated ideas in a way that actually makes sense. Outside of tutoring, I’m currently working in neuroscience-focused research and applying to Neurology residency, which keeps my science foundation sharp and up-to-date.
I’ve been tutoring for over a decade and work especially well with middle school, high school, and undergraduate students in chemistry, math, biology, and physics. Whether you’re strengthening the basics, preparing for honors or AP coursework, or trying to keep up in a demanding college STEM class, I focus on building real understanding instead of memorizing steps. I teach students how to approach problems logically—setting up equations clearly, tracking units, interpreting word problems, and recognizing the patterns that show up again and again on quizzes and exams—so the material feels manageable and predictable rather than overwhelming.
My sessions are structured, supportive, and practical. We’ll break topics down step-by-step, use visuals when it helps, and practice enough problems that the process becomes automatic. I’ll also show you how to study smarter—using active recall, building a simple review routine, and learning how to use mistakes as feedback—so you keep improving between sessions. The goal isn’t just to finish tonight’s homework; it’s to build lasting skills and confidence that carry into future tests and classes.

What sets me apart as a tutor isn’t just a strong STEM foundation—it’s my ability to meet students where they are, understand how they learn, and create a supportive environment that keeps them motivated. I individualize every session to a student’s strengths and gaps, making challenging material feel approachable and genuinely learnable. My teaching style emphasizes deep conceptual understanding and visual, stepwise explanations, using diagrams and clear workflows to break down complex topics—especially in systems-heavy subjects like physiology and biochemistry. I also coach students on efficient, independent study habits such as active recall, focusing on high-yield concepts, and building structured review routines. Ultimately, my goal is not only to help you succeed in a single class or exam, but to build lasting confidence and the skills to learn independently long-term.

Ryan is the absolute best tutor I’ve ever had. He really knows his stuff, he really shows he cares about me and my goals, and he’s definitely worth what he charges. I would recommend him to my closest friend and gatekeep him from my worst enemy. I never knew I could do so well in bio until I started learning from him. 10/10
He is an experienced, amazing, and friendly tutor who is a master of all subjects. He explains concepts with clarity and helps me improve both my grades and my confidence in presenting. I passed my biochemistry class before tutoring I was getting f and after tutoring I got an A.
Ryan is a great teacher and very knowledgeable. He makes very difficult subjects easy to understand. He knows biology, biochemistry, physics, chemistry, and medicine.
