About Syed

Faculty in Applied Econometrics and Model Building, Business Mathematics, Research Methodology, and Social Statistics courses for over 2 decades. I also completed over 1000 hours of teaching and consulting through the Superprof platform. In addition, I have vast experience in research, including roles as thesis supervisor, senior research fellow, coordinator of research, consultant on contractual projects, and author. I have published several journal articles and papers in international conference proceedings. I am humbled by the confidence of students (from the University of Oxford, The University of Chicago (Booth), McGill University, LSE, The Smith School of Business at Queen’s University, and others) and professionals (including an international development professional researcher at UNCDF, the Managing Director at National Standard Finance (NSF), senior advisors in government-affiliated institutions, a research fellow at Imperial College London, a visiting scholar at Harvard University, and many more), who sought guidance and wrote lovely reviews for me.

Expect clarity and proficiency, if you are skeptical about dealing with the technical matters of writing a thesis or a research paper. My technical feedback and instructions include:

Helping in the critical review of literature, finding gaps in the literature, and searching for a novel stance.

Help synchronize hypotheses with the title of the thesis and the research design.

Structuring the document into a detailed table of contents, to demonstrate depth of knowledge.

Estimation methods: I use Stata, SPSS, and Minitab for quantitative, and Nvivo for qualitative analysis of the data.

Analysis and discussion: interpreting findings and results, based on rationality and in the context of the existing literature.

Research reporting: referencing using the relevant referencing styles, such as the APA, and avoiding plagiarism.

Mentioned fee is for regular discussion on topics, following a course outline. However, for guidance in research project, thesis, troubleshooting with the data, data analysis, or discussion on past examination papers, I will duly communicate the hourly fee, after evaluating your specific needs.

For contextual guidance in research projects or the thesis, if you feel that I should review your work, I can inform you about my time allocation on the review process. Also, instead of scheduling meetings, you can ask for the written feedback: identification of mistakes and concrete suggestions for improvement about the write-up, methodology, and analysis parts of your project.

In the complimentary session, we get to know each other, discuss your problems and academic concerns, and plan when to schedule meetings and how to proceed further. The formal discussion on course contents or on your project will be initiated after this complimentary session.
