About Matt
I have 29 years of teaching at the high school and middle school level. I struggled with math when I was in high school and only came back to the subject after a few years of being a mechanic. I empathize with the student who struggles to learn math and consider myself very good at meeting students where they are and helping them improve. After years of teaching, I have many ways to explain topics including fun analogies to help students remember concepts. I love teaching geometry the most and I still want to work with students in my retirement. If you want a tutor who is knowledgeable, patient, and kind, you should probably give me a holler!

My approach is a tutor is to meet the student where he/she is at and then gently but steadily build their skills and confidence in mathematics. I have access to full curricula in pre-algebra and geometry that I have taught in the public school setting for many years. I also like to help with specific questions, assignments and test prep provided by the student. I think what sets me apart as a tutor is my 29 years of teaching experience. I have worked with many different students with different learning styles and personalities. I also have work experience outside of education and sometimes I can use that experience to relate mathematics to mechanical and construction applications. Lastly, I struggled with math in high school and only took one year of math. Later, I returned to college and earned a B.S in Mathematics and a M.A in Educational Leadership. Because of my early struggles in math, I can empathize with students who also struggle.
