About Misty
I am a returning student. I have already acquired an Associate's degree in Dental Assisting and Applied Sciences. I am returning to USM to pursue my passion, which is teaching. I have tutored students for 7 years. Some of my proudest moments were watching one of my students grow in reading and English skills. Her school system had diagnosed her with dyslexia. When I got a chance to tutor her, I made a fascinating discovery. She was NOT dyslexic. Now, she is a senior in an Honors English class and is currently reading Shakespeare. I tutor students from Kindergarten to 12th grade. I tutor University level students. I also tutor students who are trying to get their g.e.d. or simply would like to grasp the English language a little bit better.

I am a cheerleader who's tough when she needs to be. I like to make my classes fun, and I'm very interactive with my students! I use worksheets, whiteboards, flash cards, videos, pictures, learning exercises, and I will not let you get bored! I'm also very patient. So, if I see you getting frustrated, I'll just simply say let's take a minute, get some water, breathe, relax. If you're a kid, it's dance time or song time! We've gotta give that little brain a tiny break and get them alert again. Then, we'll switch subjects or exercises and come back to the difficult task a little at a time. Every student learns differently. Every mind is like a safe, and I view it as my personal mission to open that safe and find the valuables. Once I can figure out the way that a student learns, there is no stopping them! Their potential is limitless.
