About Hema
Hi! My name is Hema and I am a current freshman at the University of Minnesota. I am studying Business Economics on a premed track and hope to be a doctor one day. Some of my favorite things to do include baking, reading and sewing, pretty much anything that involves creating I love to do. Throughout high school I have had many opportunities to work with kids and I've found a real passion in helping kids grow and learn. I hope that I can share this passion with my students through my lessons.

Every kid gets stuck on math differently maybe it's fractions, maybe it's word problems, maybe it's just confidence, so I don't teach from a script or a worksheet packet. Before we even start the lesson, I like to spend time figuring out exactly where a student is struggling and why and then build a plan around that. My sessions are one-on-one, patient, and paced to how your child actually learns, not how fast the classroom moves. We will work through the specific gaps holding them back, and I explain things in a few different ways until it clicks. A typical lesson would include first a recap of what was taught in the previous class as well as a time for any questions the student may have, then we would work through the lesson together with practice problems, demonstrations, as well as some independent work, and then typically end the lesson with some light homework to make sure that the concepts stick. As someone who once had a hard time in math my goal isn't just helping the student finish homework it's helping them feel capable in math again, so they stop dreading it.
