About Jiayin

Hello! I am a Law student at McGill University and I graduated from Marianopolis College in the Health Science program. I attended Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf during my high school years. I've been working as a private tutor since 2018, helping students in need in math and French. Under my guidance, students have seen a boost in their grades and accomplished getting into their preferred high schools and gaining confidence in their studies. Before the pandemic, I also worked as a summer camp monitor, so I am experienced in working with younger children and understand their needs well.

About the lesson

My teaching method is very example-based. I approach each student in a personalized way; I start by looking with them at their past errors in tests, helping them correct their mistakes and making sure they understand every step of the problem. To learn new material, I use a lot of tips and tricks for better memorization and understanding. Although I haven't completed any highly advanced degree yet, I can clearly communicate and explain complex topics using simple terms. As I have recently acquired a solid grasp of the concepts I teach, I can help my students navigate the most common mistakes, traps, etc., they can encounter at their level. I adapt to your rhythm and synthesize the information in a way you can easily understand. I also love mnemonics and active recall. I've been interested in effective learning techniques for quite a while, and I've discovered highly efficient tools to learn and reinforce new concepts! :)

When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?
I find enjoyment in the logical and problem-solving aspects of mathematics; I appreciate the precision and structure that math offers, as well as the sense of satisfaction that comes from solving mathematical puzzles and equations.
What makes you passionate about your subject?
Theory can get pretty tiring, so real-life applications of mathematics is really what sparked an interest in me. When I discovered how math plays a role in fields like physics, engineering, computer science, finance, and even art, it motivated me to delve deeper into mathematical concepts.
What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?
Witnessing a student's progress and growth is one of the most fulfilling aspects of tutoring. When students grasp challenging concepts, improve their grades, or gain confidence in their abilities, I can take pride in my small contribution to my students' success.
Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.
I often reflect on one of my teachers who employed unconventional methods in teaching their subject. Initially, I didn't fully grasp their innovative approach, but looking back, I realize that their methods were effective in creating an engaging and memorable learning experience.
What are your keys to success?
My three main keys to success are persistence and hard work, resilience and adaptability, and balance and well-being.
